The Paragould Police Department currently has 48 sworn police officers and 10 civilians, for a total of 58 employees protecting and serving "The Friendly City" of Paragould. The current officer employee breakdown is: two D.A.R.E. officers, one school resource officer, two traffic enforcement officer, eight criminal investigators, including four members of a specialized Street Crimes Unit, 28 patrol officers, and four administrative officers including the Chief of Police. The Paragould Police Department also utilizes 10 extremely dedicated volunteer Reserve Police Officers.
Our civilian employees include six dispatchers, two data entry clerks, one criminal investigations secretary/coordinator, and one code enforcement officer. The Paragould PD Dispatch Center is the E-911 Primary Public Safety Answering Point (P.S.A.P.) for all of Greene County, Arkansas and answered 33,534 emergency 9-1-1 calls last year. We actively encourage all residents to create and maintain a Smart 911 profile to assist all Greene County Emergency Services in providing the best possible protection and assistance.
With a fleet of 50 police vehicles, each non-probationary Paragould Police Officer is issued a take-home patrol unit outfitted with all equipment necessary to respond to an emergency. Three-fourths of our patrol units are less than 5 years old. These units are equipped with video recording equipment, and are being outfitted with laptop computers and/or iPads. These will be linked to the Arkansas Crime and Information Center database and the local Computer Aided Dispatch and Reporting system customized for the Police Department by Relativity Inc. of Jonesboro, AR.
In 2002, statistics were gathered and declared in 2003 that Paragould was recorded as the safest city in Arkansas with a population of 20,000 plus. The crime rate was 15 crimes per 1,000. The city that came in 2nd place had a rate of 42 crimes per 1,000.
2014 statistics showed that the Paragould Police Department answered 16,716 calls for assistance and made 3,153 misdemeanor arrests. We opened 633 felony cases and processed 604 felony arrests. The Paragould Police also investigated 1,240 accidents.
