The Fire Department conducts building inspection and preplans of all the commercial buildings in the city. The information gathered from these inspections is used in the event that they should have to respond to an incident at any of the locations. The inspections are used to verify that all fire codes or followed. Currently the city of Paragould has adopted the 2012 Arkansas Fire Prevention Code. Working with local industry, nursing homes and other businesses, the fire department helps to train people in the use of fire extinguishers and in general fire safety.

Each year near Fire Safety Week the Fire Department hosts about 2,000 3rd and 4th grade students from Greene County and Southeast Missouri for tours of Fire Safety House, a mobile facility used to teach children how to prevent fires as well as how to get out safely if a fire were to occur in their home. During the year firefighters visit with numerous schools, daycares and Scouting groups to teach fire safety.

The Paragould Fire Department consists of 34 Full time firefighters and 9 part-time firefighters. The members train many hours a year to keep their Arkansas Certified Firefighter rating. All members are also trained as Hazmat Technicians and must complete several hours per year of continuing education to keep that certification. The department also has 16 certified rescue technicians in confined space, high angle, and rope rescue disciplines. The PFD is equipped to respond to hazmat incidents, technical rescue incidents such as confined space, building collapse and vehicle extrication as well as industrial equipment rescues. The PFD has 19 Emergency Medical Technicians and responds to all life threatening medical calls and vehicle accidents within the city of Paragould and many other incidents that may arise other than fires.
