As the clock strikes midnight and the calendar turns, the city of Paragould awakens to the promise of a new year brimming with possibilities and adventures. Here we’re unveiling the top 10 ways to kickstart your year in the “One and Only”.

1. Step into nature.

As the sun rises on the first day of the year, there's no better way to kickstart a journey of health, wellness, and adventure than by embracing the great outdoors. Arkansas beckons nature enthusiasts to start their year on the right foot with First Day Hikes. Head to Lake Frierson State Park on Monday, January 1 from 10-11AM and join a Park Interpreter for a Hiking 101 training session. You’ll learn things like how to plan your hiking trip and pack your bag. Then you’ll hit the 0.5-mile Dogwood Lane Trail. Later that afternoon at 2PM, you can hike the 1.5-mile Boundary Trail with the park interpreter. Crowley’s Ridge State Park also has a fun First Day Hike event planned from 2-2:30PM. Join a park interpreter in a read aloud of A Warm Winter Tail, while strolling the Lake Ponder Trail. This is a perfect activity for young children ages 4-7 years old. 2. Tighten up your laces.

What better way to kick off a year of health, wellness, and determination than with the 14th Annual Resolution Run on Monday, January 1? This flat 2 mile run/walk is perfect for everyone! The race is an out and back course beginning at Greene County Tech High School at 11AM. Registration and awards will be in the GCT Community Room. Proceeds from this event benefit Mission Outreach. 3. Learn more about a children's class.

Bring your children to the Greene County Public Library on Wednesday, January 3 from 1:30-2PM for an interactive learning experience! Get a free preview of what Music Bus NEA classes entail. There will be music, nursery rhymes, movement, and more. This class is suitable for 0-5 years old. Learn more by visiting the Greene County Public Library’s Facebook Page

4. Educate yourself on nutrition.

Head to Crossfit Cathal on Sunday, January 7 from 2-5PM to learn the keys to a healthy lifestyle. If eating better is one of your new year’s resolutions, this free class is for you. Learn how to stay in control of your eating by establishing manageable habits that will set you up for success as we start the new year. Register for free here.

5. Build a box.

Get your hammer and take your kids to Lowe’s for their “My First DIY Toolbox” workshop. This workshop will allow your little ones to build their own toolbox with the help of “Red Vest” experts. Timeslots are available from 10AM-1PM on Saturday, January 20. Reserve your spot here.

6. Take a plunge.

Special Olympics Arkansas invites you to step right up to the chill in their annual Polar Plunge event. Every year people jump into freezing cold water to support Special Olympics Arkansas. This year’s Polar Plunge will take place at Crowley’s Ridge State Park on Saturday, January 27. The plunge will begin at 2PM. To learn more, visit here.

7. Revel in the tunes of a talented musician.

Join MaryBeth Byrd at the Collins Theatre on Saturday, February 3 at 7PM. MaryBeth has made the Top 10 on The Voice and American Idol and has been coached and mentored by John Legend, Usher, Taylor Swift, and others. You won’t want to miss this performance so get your tickets now here.

8. Attend a showcase of the array of businesses in Paragould.

The Paragould Regional Chamber of Commerce invites you to explore the diverse businesses in our area! Save the date for Thursday, February 15, from 1-3PM, and head to the Community Center to attend their 17th Annual Chamber Showcase. It's the ideal opportunity to familiarize yourself with the local business scene.

9. Support local actors.

Join us on Saturday, March 2 at 7 PM for an enchanting evening as St. Johns Lutheran Church presents "The Unforgettable Flood" at the historic Collins Theatre. This captivating original children's musical, written by Dana Johnson, is a theatrical adaptation inspired by the timeless Bible story of Noah's Ark.
